How many times, whether as a child or an adult, have people told you to be careful because they love you? In this adorable book with soft, lovely illustrations by Cady B. Driver, authors Judy Snider and Joan Dickrow present several situations where someone tells another person, "I love you, be careful." A husband says it to his wife as she prepares to go into the hospital to have their baby. The mother says it to the child when getting ready to put her in the crib. The father says it to the child when they are petting a horse. And it goes on through the cycle of the child's growing up, having a sibling, going to school, graduating, getting married, and having her own child. After all, don't grandparents have a right to tell their children to be careful with their grandchildren? I Love You Be Careful edition by Joan Dickow Judy Snider Cady Driver Children eBooks Reviews
"I Love You, Be Careful" is what my mother says to me everyday. This simple yet poetic book evoked memories of my childhood and a phrase my mother said to me often. Although I have taken such things for granted all these years, recent experience has made me realize someday I may not have loved ones in my life to tell me such things. It's strange how five words can let you know how much someone cares. I also love the artwork in the book. The renderings are sweet and simple, just like the book. A wonderful gift for a child or someone you care about.
Just a few simple words but they hold so much meaning for us. What I really liked about this book is that not only does it capture those familiar moments in life and rites of passage, but the illustrator chose to follow a single family in doing so and we get to watch the family grow and change over the years. That makes the sentiment, "I love you, be careful," all the more endearing and true. This is a great book to give to anyone you cherish and love no matter their age. Children will enjoy sitting on mom or dad's lap and hearing it read to them. Graduates will appreciate it, those expecting their first little one will, too, and so will grandparents. A great book for the entire family. - Biblio Reads Children's Book Review
Not counting the introduction, "I Love You, Be Careful" are the only words repeated throughout the picture book written by real-life sisters, Judy Snider and Joan Dickow, with beautiful illustrations by Cady Driver. The theme of the book is that from the moment we enter into the world there is someone there who loves you and wants you to be safe.
The picture book takes you through the life of one girl. From birth, her first time walking, playing on a slide, holding her baby brother, riding her first bike, her first day of school, graduating high school, getting married, and so on.
I enjoyed reading and rereading I Love You, Be Careful. If you are having a bad day, reading the picture book will put a smile on your face. I recommend this book to both children and adults. And with Easter and Mother's day just around the corner, this would make the perfect gift.
Synopsis This is a very heartwarming and enchanting book about how we must be careful in our lives. Our parents are always telling us that there is so much out there that we should be careful of. As the reader is reading the book, (s)he will be moved by the truth of what the author is saying. Children have to be careful when they are playing in the backyard, riding their bikes for the first time, holding a baby sibling and going off to school for the first time.
Overall thoughts I absolutely love this book. The illustrations are as beautiful as the message and they capture some of the poignant memories during a child's life. The book portrays the love and care of parents from babyhood through adulthood. There are different layers and complexities of love during the various stages of a child's life. But there is still a very concerned, unconditional love by a parent towards a child at all stages. What a wonderful message for readers, young and older. There is also a page at the beginning of the book to personalize it as a gift for children as well as adults. I just can't say enough nice things about this book! What a treasure it truly is!
I Love You, Be Careful by Judy Snider and Joan Dickow is a Children's Picture Book on Parenting and Relationships.
From the moment we are born, someone is there telling us to be careful. There isn't no one that hasn't been told by someone, to be careful, whether they are playing, or traveling or just doing everyday things, a mom, dad, friend etc. has told you to watch what you are doing because you are loved.
A baby is born and we read how the parents watch over her, protecting her and reminding her to be careful. From climbing trees, playing in the park or beach, ballet recitals, first dates, marriages and the birth of the child's own baby, her parents are there to remind her that they love her and to be careful until the moment she says the same things to her own child, bringing the book full circle.
I thought the pictures were delightful and lead to much discussion about the events on the pages. Each page is simply written giving you a chance to let your imagination soar as you feel the message the book is trying to convey. The illustrations by Candy B. Driver were colourful, friendly and beautifully depicted and children will delight in pouring over their stories as you read to them.
